What's going on at good old LHS? The News-Sun tells us...

A Libertyville High School fine arts foundation has raised $40,000 of its $200,000 goal to refurbish the school's auditorium seating, the District 128 Board of Education was told Tuesday night.

Foundation vice president Terry Weppler said the "Take a Seat" campaign to replace 880 seats is now in full swing by recently qualifying as a charitable IRS 501-(c)-3 organization. He hopes the tax designation will further boost corporate contributions and matching-grant efforts so the foundation can reach its goal by March 1. If so, the new seating will be installed over the summer.

Weppler urged the School Board to participate in the campaign with a budget allocation.

"Seating in the LHS auditorium has deteriorated after 35 years of hard use, and in some cases has become unsafe. We are aware that at least one seat has already collapsed," Weppler said.

The high school in Clinton (about as far away from our house as LHS is from my parents') is doing the exact same thing, but with less chairs for a smaller theater. Read the full story here.
