Best. Week. Ever.

My wonderful holiday vacation continued Wednesday evening as Jack posted a 103-degree fever while Kristie and I were doing some exciting shopping (diapers, cat food). Upon our return, we stripped him, sponge-bathed him and plugged him with Tylenol, bringing his body temp back below 99 and letting him sleep about 11 hours.

This morning, with the fever again above 100, we headed for the doctor's office (though not the regular one, since she's off until Tuesday). He had to undergo a strep test and bloodwork (both not very fun to administer to a 20-month-old pissed off kid).

The 15-minute strep test came back negative and his blood counts are all perfectly normal, so the Christmas journey to Libertyville will proceed as planned. If he still has a fever on Saturday we have to take him somewhere, but that'll be just as easy if not easier in Libertyville as it is in Clinton.

This time I think it's just a virus, and he's running around playing with his toys and acting perfectly happy. The fever has pretty much come under control, and whether that's the Tylenol or the infection just running its course is not really an issue, because we can keep him on the drugs as needed.

So anyhow, I may or may not have a chance/need to write anything until after the first of the year. So... have a fantastic New Year's weekend. And stay out of the freakin' hospital, because trust me -- it's just not any fun.
