Things you didn't know

Can you name themost famous person buried in Libertyville? Me neither, but this blurb from Sun-Times gossip columnist MIchael Sneed (a female) could be a start:

Long live the king! King Peter II of Yugoslavia, the only king buried on American soil, may not hold that title much longer.

Sneed hears his son, Crown Prince Alexander of Yugoslavia, may be readying plans to disinter his father from St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Monastery in Libertyville and move his remains to a family mausoleum in Serbia.

Word is Prince Alexander, who is in Chicago this week with his wife, Crown Princess Katherine of Yugoslavia, made no secret of his desire to take his father home. It may have been the undercurrent of his visit, which also included stops at an Indiana Serbian Orthodox Church and a Monday night fund-raiser at Michigan Avenue's swank Bulgari store for the Princess' Lifeline Humanitarian Organization, which benefits Serbia's troubled health care system.

It was like a scene from "Doctor Zhivago." Snow fell on the onion-domed structure where the king is buried while steam rose from the plates of Serbian food being served by women wrapped in peasant scarves.

• History note: Peter II assumed the title of king in 1934 as an 11-year-old after the assassination of his father, King Alexander I. Peter II gained full control of the country at 17 -- but only for a month or so.

He was forced out of Yugoslavia by Adolf Hitler and the occupying Axis forces and spent much of his adult life in England and the United States, where he died at the age of 47.

His will specified he was to be buried at the monastery in Libertyville, headquarters of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of the United States and Canada.

Prince Alexander reputedly plans to transfer the king's remains to a family mausoleum in Oplenac, Serbia. The grave, however, has been a dramatic drawing card for American and Canadian Serbs.

Will the transfer happen?
