Illinois Senator Barack Obama will be the next presidential candidate to participate in a MySpace/MTV dialogue when he takes the stage on October 29 at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Following on the heels of the first forum with candidate John Edwards on September 27, Obama will answer questions from the live audience and watch as his responses are rated in real time by users weighing in over the Internet.This release makes me think of two things:
The forum, which will take place at 1:30 p.m. ET, will stream live on MySpace.com, MTV's ChooseOrLose.com and MTV Mobile, and will air at 7 p.m. ET that evening on MTV. The dialogue will be moderated by MTV News correspondents Gideon Yago and Sway Calloway, as well as WashingtonPost.com political reporter Chris Cillizza, who kept Edwards on his toes during the first forum by feeding him instant audience reaction to his responses with a polling tool supplied by Flektor.
1. While in college, I voted for (the late) Harry Caray for student body president, then two years later lobbied heavily for The Rock for the same position, going to far as to have a mock interview with The Rock as one of my columns while Cosmos editor. And the Rock actually got more votes than some of the actual candidates.
2. During the same year of my Rock advocacy, Al Gore appeared on campus while running for president. Except the event (in Dows) was pretty much just for top Cedar Rapids Democrats and the Poli-Sci J-term class. The rest of us were oblivious until we woke up one day and there were Secret Service snipers on the Marquis roof.
